Also, both of us were recovering from colds when we recorded, so we sound a bit congested.  I tried to edit out as much of the sniffles and coughing as possible, my apologies for any that remained.

  1. Things I have learned from Sherlock Holmes: DO NOT TAKE A SLASH FAN. I saw both films with my best friend and had to smack her because of the rapidly becoming text. (Hilariously, when we saw the first one, we went another friend who kept wanting to scream at the screen "YOU'RE DOING THE MAGIC WRONG." That was a fun time.)

I really haven't read any Holmes stories aside from Hound of the Baskervilles- I have them on my Kindle! We're going to get them eventually!- but I'm familiar enough with the continuity. So, I had the same reaction of "Wait, what?" with the whole adrenaline scene in Game of Shadows, because, "But Mycroft specifically named Reichenbach, what the-" It did play up the moment, so it didn't bother me as much. (Kinda like my reaction to the same thing in Dark Knight.)

Didn't mind Irene being killed off, although I like your interpretation of how it may have happened. And I would have liked to have seen more of Sim- she's a very flat character, although I loved the knife-fighting.

Have yet to watch Sherlock, but just Martin Freeman yaaaaay. Is it December yet? I want it to be December, I desperately need to see the Hobbit. And Benedict Cumberbatch has the most awesome name ever.

And I haven't read "The Improbable Adventures..." but I do own Neil Gaiman's "Study in Emerald," and it's really well-done. The reveal is fantastic, and plays enough with the familiar Holmes canon so that it does come rather unexpectedly.

    In conclusion, Stephen Fry.

  2. I like to think there was more Sim, but they cut it in favor of rapidly becoming text. If it hasn't become apparent, I suspect that the whole movie was edited towards the shippy end, which I am clearly okay with. I would like to see a longer cut with a little more meat on DVD, that's what DVD is for.

I also think Noomi's cheekbones were cast to compete with Benedict's cheekbones, but that might just be me.

Benedict Cumberbatch has an awesome name and an equally awesome voice, he's been cast as Smaug in the Hobbit and I am very much looking forward to it.

I think I bookmarked "Study in Emerald" at one point, but I either never got around to reading or I read it and then completely blanked it. One or the other.

  3. I remember when I watched the first film I thought that if you wanted to see the slash, it was totally there, and if you didn't you could safely ignore it. I don't think that was true of Game of Shadows though. It's so there.

Benedict Cumberbatch is a fabulous name, and I think he's rapidly becoming my current celebrity crush.

You can download a copy of a "A Study in Emerald" from Neil Gaiman's website. It's done in a really fun style too.

  4. Nice review of the movie. Downey Jr makes a very interesting Sherlock Holmes.

I liked the first movie. I need to check this one out.

    Cheers!
